Kevan has been a registered Occupational Therapist since 1997
Kevan was quick to recognised that the ability to drive was the best way he could ensure his clients maintain their maximum level of independence. In 2011 he gained further qualifications to specialise in driving assessment.
Since then he has helped hundreds of clients get back behind the wheel.
There are 2 parts to the assessment:
During the off-road assessment, Kevan will ask you about
Kevan will evaluate your physical, sensory, visual and thinking abilities. Attention will also be paid to your ability to plan and concentrate and your understanding of road laws.
The on-road assessment will take place in a dual controlled vehicle. Kevan and a driving instructor will be present. Kevan will observe your driving performance and will provide you with feedback at the end of your assessment.
Kevan provides feedback straight away to help you understand the effect of any limitations on your driving. This will include feedback on your judgement, response to hazards, how you adjust to different traffic situations, and how you follow the road laws.
At the conclusion of your assessment Kevan will recommend that
1. You resume driving unconditionally,
2. There will need to be some restrictions to your driving,
3. You can drive after you’ve made some modifications to your car.
A possible outcome of the assessment is that at present you should not be driving. If this is the case
you may be asked to take lessons or to familiarise yourself with adaptive driving equipment. You may also be asked to wait for further recovery or improvement before you undertake your next assessment.
Regardless of the outcome, Kevan will work with you to help you achieve your goals or get the answers you need.
